Press Release – NORTON VCF4 Grinding Wheels

19 July 2005

NEW Norton Advanced Formula VCF4 Grinding Wheels are proven to reduce cost per part by up to 25% and lowers the risk of thermal damage on high metal removal applications.

VCF4 Creepfeed Wheels

The high porosity of new Norton VCF4 wheels combine premium ceramic seeded-gel abrasives and high strength bond technology resulting in superior form holding for creepfeed grinding. Norton VCF4 wheels are available in 5-inch to 28-inch diameters. The primary grit sizes are 80 and 120 and they are also available 46 through 120 grit.

For Immediate Release

WORCESTER, Mass., May 27, 2005 -- VCF4 is the latest generation in the Norton line of vitrified bonded creepfeed products. The high porosity VCF4 wheels combine premium ceramic seeded-gel abrasives and advanced bond technology, resulting in superior wheel strength and form holding in comparison to the current generation of creepfeed wheels.

The advanced formula bond used in VCF4 wheels results in wheels that can hold form while reducing the wheel's hardness, minimizing the risk of thermal damage. A reduction in hardness or wheel letter grade allows for higher metal removal rates with less power draw.

Cost savings generated by switching to VFC4 wheels are achieved by reducing grinding time, longer wheel and dressing tool life and less downtime changing wheels. In a test grinding Inconel-based turbine components on a Magerle creepfeed grinder, processing time was reduced from 14 to 12 minutes while parts per wheel increased from 15 to 92. Cost per part was reduced by 17%. On a test of an engine connection rod, grinding the cap and serrated rod mounting faces, cost was reduced by 25% by reducing grinding time from 25 to 12 minutes and increasing parts per wheel from 25 to 76.

Norton VCF4 wheels are available in 5-inch to 28-inch diameters. The primary grit sizes are 80 and 120 and are also available 46 through 120 grit.
