Description of Disc Grinding
Disc grinders are machines that grind flat surfaces and employ a bonded abrasive wheel, or pair of wheels, of various shapes and sizes called discs.
Typical Machines
There are five basic types of disc grinding machines:
-
Horizontal spindle – single end
-
Horizontal spindle – double end
-
Horizontal spindle – double disc
-
Vertical spindle – single end (tub grinders)
-
Vertical spindle – double disc
Four basic feed methods are in common use:
-
Through feed
-
Rotary
-
Reciprocating
-
Oscillating
Typical Industries
Disc wheels can be found throughout the metalworking industries and in grinding such materials as:
