Disc Grinding

Description of Disc Grinding

Disc grinders are machines that grind flat surfaces and employ a bonded abrasive wheel, or pair of wheels, of various shapes and sizes called discs.

Typical Machines

There are five basic types of disc grinding machines:

  • Horizontal spindle – single end

  • Horizontal spindle – double end

  • Horizontal spindle – double disc

  • Vertical spindle – single end (tub grinders)

  • Vertical spindle – double disc

Four basic feed methods are in common use:

  • Through feed

  • Rotary

  • Reciprocating

  • Oscillating

Typical Industries

Disc wheels can be found throughout the metalworking industries and in grinding such materials as:

  • Geramic

  • Rubber

  • Glass
